The Galaxy S27 Ultra could be heading for one of Samsung's biggest design changes in years. A new leak points to a redesigned camera setup that looks markedly different from the current Ultra models, while another leak suggests Samsung may even be considering two different sizes for the flagship.
Galaxy S27 Ultra Could Get a Dramatic Camera Redesign
Reliable tipster Ice Universe shared a design sketch on X that appears to show the Galaxy S27 Ultra's rear camera layout. The design features two circular camera cutouts and a separate pill-shaped module housed within a large rectangular camera plateau.

The tipster later confirmed that the sketch belongs to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, while warning that the design could trigger what he described as an "intense wave of criticism" among Galaxy fans. He also suggested that Samsung's design team is already too far along to make major changes.

The new approach would mark a clear shift from recent flagship Samsung phones. Instead of separate camera rings or a more conventional camera island, the S27 Ultra could use a single raised plateau covering the entire camera area.
Interestingly, the design also resembles the camera plateau seen on some recent iPhones. Beyond aesthetics, however, a larger, flatter plateau could help the phone sit more steadily on a table and leave more usable space around the back for magnetic Qi2 accessories.

Samsung Could Be Planning Two Galaxy S27 Ultra Sizes
The camera redesign isn't the only unusual detail to emerge. Shortly after Ice Universe's post, leaker Sonny Dickson shared CAD images showing two versions of what he claims are the Galaxy S27 Ultra, suggesting Samsung could offer the Ultra in two different sizes.

Ice Universe also pointed out differences in the button and camera positions between the two models, making it less likely that the images are simply variations of the same design.
There is another possibility, though. The smaller model could actually be the rumoured Galaxy S27 Pro, rather than a smaller Ultra. For now, there isn't enough information to establish which explanation is correct.
Samsung could therefore be exploring a strategy similar to Apple's Pro and Pro Max lineup, offering its highest-end hardware in two different form factors.

The redesign could reflect changes beneath the surface as well. Samsung is reportedly planning to drop the 3x telephoto camera found on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This could potentially create additional internal space for a larger battery or magnets required for Qi2 accessories.
The current 3x camera uses a relatively small 10 MP sensor, and earlier leaks have suggested Samsung could instead use a newer 200 MP sensor for its main camera while changing how the phone handles the 3x to 5x zoom range.
Samsung is also reportedly preparing to replace the ISOCELL HP2 main camera sensor, which has been used across several generations of Ultra phones. A newer 200 MP sensor, possibly the newly announced Samsung ISOCELL HPC, could take its place.
With the Galaxy S27 series still some distance away, none of these changes are confirmed yet. However, the combination of a radically different camera design, possible size variations and camera hardware changes suggests Samsung could be preparing a substantially different Galaxy S27 Ultra for 2027.
