Samsung's next major hardware refresh is on the horizon as leaks and rumours have started picking up pace. Recent leaks revealed the Z Fold 8 official-looking renders and its Wide form factor. New information now suggests that the Bureau of Indian Standards has just greenlit the batteries of these upcoming phones.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8 and Wide Fold Launch Inches Closer
Spotted first by SammyGuru, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Wide Fold, Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 have appeared on BIS with their SKU numbers. This is one of the final hurdles before a regional launch, and suggests the new phones are advancing perfectly on schedule for the summer reveal.

While the appearance of the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 isn't surprising, the biggest takeaway is the presence of the long-rumoured Galaxy Z Wide Fold. For those unaware, this new entry is expected to shift from Samsung's traditionally narrow cover displays in favour of a squarer 4:3 aspect ratio, and introduce early competition to Apple's upcoming Foldable that could also use a wide aspect ratio.
The BIS database associates specific battery model numbers with each confirmed phone:
- Galaxy Z Fold 8: EB-BF976DAE/ EB-BF976DAY
- Galaxy Z Flip 8: EB-BF776BAE / EB-BF776BAY
- Galaxy Wide Fold: EB-BF971DAE / EB-BF971DAY
While the listing doesn't confirm the battery capacities, previous leaks point to an increase in capacities. Both the standard Z Fold 8 and the new Wide variant could reportedly house a 5,000mAh battery, while the more compact Z Flip 8 could pack a 4,300mAh battery.

Interestingly, the BIS filing mentions a fourth model, EB-BF972DAY, but insiders expect it to be a prototype smartphone that may never see the light of day.
With regulatory hurdles now being cleared and high-quality CAD renders already starting to break out, Samsung is clearly putting the final touches. If all goes well, we can expect the new foldables to launch sometime in July 2026 at Samsung's mid-year Galaxy Unpacked event.
