Back in 2024, Samsung confirmed that it was working on a mixed-reality headset to bring XR (extended reality) experiences to the masses. Their Q1 2025 earnings presentation hinted at a 2025 launch window. Now, a new report suggests that Samsung will launch its first-ever XR headset in Q3 2025.
As revealed by Korean tech publication NewsPrim, Samsung's XR headset (codenamed Project Moohan) will globally debut on September 29, 2025. The South Korean consumer brand will hold a dedicated Samsung Unpacked event to announce the same.
And starting October 13, 2025, South Korea will be the first market to experience Project Moohan (also known as Project Infinity) ahead of everyone else.

It seems like we will get a glimpse of how the XR headset will look and work at the upcoming Samsung Unpacked event for foldables. Alongside the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, NewsPrim says that Samsung will demo its Project Moohan prototypes and release several teaser videos to "gauge the market reaction."
With this launch, Samsung is set to rival the likes of Meta and Apple, who have already launched their mixed reality headsets. However, from the looks of it, Samsung will tread the mixed-reality journey carefully given how Apple has struggled with its steeply priced Vision Pro. Meta is undoubtedly the market leader at this point with its 87% market share.

And Samsung's XR headset's success will be crucial for players like Google and Qualcomm as well. This is because while Samsung and Qualcomm will bring the hardware, Google will deliver the software.
At the Google I/O 2025 event, the Android XR operating system was announced, which aims to bring new experiences to XR using AI. So, it will power the yet-to-be-named Samsung mixed-reality headset. This will also mean wider native apps support as well as smartphone apps support.
On the processing side of things, Qualcomm's XR2+ second-generation chipset will run the show. Other features include dual micro OLED screens with a high refresh rate and up to 16 GB of RAM.
With that being said, we are excited about Samsung's entry into the mixed reality space and hopefully it will be able to solve many of the problems that exist within the Android XR space.
