Meta-owned WhatsApp is now introducing a fresh set of calling features that are aimed at making virtual catch-ups more organised and interactive. The latest update to WhatsApp adds the ability for users to schedule calls, raise a hand to speak and even react with emojis in group calls.
The new WhatsApp Scheduled Calls feature allows users to pre-plan group calls and send invites to individuals or entire groups. To do so, users can tap the "+" button in the Call tab on WhatsApp and select "Schedule Call" from here.

Then, users can simply add a name to the call, write a description, set the time and duration of the call, select the call type and share it with individuals and groups. Participants will receive a notification when the call is about to start, ensuring fewer missed conversations.
Additionally, WhatsApp has brought in new in-call interaction tools letting users "raise a hand" to request a turn to speak. This can effectively manage bigger group calls and keep chaos at bay. Users can also make use of emoji reactions in real time without interrupting others.

WhatsApp's call management tab is also getting an upgrade, which now displays a clear list of upcoming calls, attendee details and shareable links. Call creators will receive notifications when someone joins a call via a shared link. As with all calls, WhatsApp reaffirms that it remains protected by end-to-end encryption to ensure privacy.
The Meta-owned app states that this is a global update and will gradually roll out to everyone. WhatsApp also states that the latest update is designed to make calls "more fun and productive" for both casual chats and work meetings.
