WhatsApp is working on a new feature that could allow users to add verified Instagram profile links to their WhatsApp profiles. The feature could add a layer of verification by integrating with Meta's Accounts Centre, which is also used by Facebook and Instagram.
Reported first by WABetaInfo, the ability to add verified Instagram profile links has been spotted on WhatsApp Beta version 2.24.22.27 for Android. The feature will build on another feature that was added to the 2.25.7.9 WhatsApp Beta build, which lets users add a link to their Instagram profile.

Once verified, Instagram links on WhatsApp profiles will display a verified badge, confirming the user's ownership of the linked account. There's currently no information about when the feature will roll out.
Once a user adds their Instagram account, a green Verify link option will appear. Tapping on the same will bring up an overlay with two options – Yes, add verified link and No, add unverified link. By choosing the former, the user will be taken to Meta's Account Centre to verify if the account really belongs to them.
This could not only prevent others from impersonating someone but also come in handy for creators and popular figures. However, it's worth noting that adding Instagram links without verification is still allowed, as connecting to Meta's Accounts Centre will remain optional.

The feature is very similar to Discord, which lets users connect and verify multiple platforms. And like Discord, Meta could expand this feature beyond Instagram to further reduce the risks of users impersonating others.
Meta is working on adding many new WhatsApp features, including threaded replies, notification reminders for chats and missed calls, importing profile photos from Facebook or Instagram and more. While most of them are currently in Beta, they're expected to roll out in the next few months.
Besides, the firm is also working on a feature that lets you message people who aren't on WhatsApp, making things a lot more convenient. Stay tuned as we cover all the latest updates to WhatsApp, as and when they're available.
