After Google kicked off the Android 17 preview cycle and brands like OnePlus followed suit, Xiaomi has now officially joined the early rollout wave. The brand has announced its Android 17 Developer Preview Program for select flagship devices, paired with a notable jump to HyperOS 3.3.
Android 17 Developer Preview Rolls out with HyperOS 3.3
The official Xiaomi Global X account has announced that the Android 17 Developer Preview is now available for the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra (including the Leica Leitzphone edition) and the Xiaomi 15T Pro. This gives developers early access to test app compatibility and system behaviour ahead of the stable release.

Xiaomi doesn't explicitly mention anything about the HyperOS version this brings. However, tech publication Ximitime reports that Xiaomi moves directly to HyperOS 3.3 with this update, skipping the expected HyperOS 3.2 version.
This suggests broader under-the-hood changes, with the new build bringing updated system frameworks, refined APIs and early alignment with Android 17's development environment.

The preview is distributed as a flashable ROM, requiring manual installation. Xiaomi has also included its Android Beta Feedback tool, enabling developers to report bugs and optimise their apps during the testing phase.
As with any early developer build, stability is not guaranteed. Xiaomi warns that the Android 17 Developer Preview may include issues related to performance, battery life and core functions, making it unsuitable for daily use.
The focus at this stage is largely on backend improvements, particularly around system performance, memory handling and app compatibility. With Android 17 beta 4 having rolled out and the latest Android version nearing platform stability, developers now have a reliable base to begin final optimisation work.
How to Enrol in Xiaomi Android 17 Developer Preview
Developers can access the Xiaomi Android 17 Developer Program by downloading the official ROM package for supported devices from the official Xiaomi developer portal. Then users will need to install the update manually via the system update settings. From the looks of it, all HyperOS 3 supported devices should be eligible for the update.
Before proceeding, users must back up their data, as the installation process will erase the device. Xiaomi also provide rollback packages, allowing users to return to a stable version if needed.
The update has currently been rolled out for the global users. As for the Xiaomi Android 17 Developer Preview HyperOS 3.3 release date in India, expect it to make it to the country soon. So, stay tuned.
