Summary

  • Apple's A19 series has appeared on Geekbench with around 10% uplift from its predecessors.
  • The A19 Pro scores 3,895 and 9,746 in single and multi-score, with an impressive 45,657 points in Metal.
  • The A19 Pro in the Air largely performs the same as the A19 in the iPhone 17, both CPU and GPU-wise

Apple launched its iPhone 17 series powered by the A19 and A19 Pro, but the exact performance improvements were unknown. Well, the A19 Pro has finally appeared on Geekbench, and the scores highlight decent performance gains

The A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro Max scores 3,895 points in single-core and 9,746 points in multi-core. It's a decent 10% uplift from the A18 Pro, which scored 3,500 and 8,700 in single and multi-core, respectively.

Interestingly, the A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro scores much less (3,523 and 9,028). It could be due to the smaller vapour chamber in it, which might not be as efficient as the bigger unit on the 17 Pro Max.

The scores for the standard A19 have also surfaced on Geekbench, with the iPhone 17 scoring 3,608 in single-core and 8,810 in multi-core. Despite the iPhone Air boasting the A19 Pro, its Geekbench scores are pretty identical to the A19. This could be due to thermal throttling due to the lack of a vapour chamber in the iPhone Air.

Besides, the A19 Pro scores 45,657 in Metal with the cores running at their maximum impressive speed of 4.26 GHz. The A19 in the iPhone 17 and the A19 Pro in the iPhone Air score 37,014 and 37,743, respectively. The Air is slightly better, but it is still far too off from its true potential due to one less GPU core.

As for the competition, the A19 Pro surpasses the Snapdragon 8 Elite's 3,000 and 9,300 points by a considerable margin. However, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5's Geekbench results suggest the A19 Pro's lead could be short-lived.

For those unaware, the A19 Pro is a hexa-core chipset with 2x performance and 4x efficiency cores. Besides, it features a 6-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. Considering it scores better than the octa-core Snapdragon 8 Elite, Apple could've easily beaten Qualcomm if the A19 series had two more cores.

The smartphone chipset race is about to get interesting with both Qualcomm and MediaTek launching flagship SoCs. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 could be unveiled on September 23, 2025, while the Dimensity 9500 series could arrive on September 22, 2025. Stay tuned as we will delve deeper into their specifications and benchmarks.
