Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London today. The three foldables are the first phones to ship with Gemini Intelligence. This is the debut of Google's new AI stack on flagship Android hardware.

What Gemini Intelligence Does on the New Galaxy Z Fold 8

Gemini Intelligence is not a new app or an AI chatbot. It's an AI layer built on top of the Android operating system itself. It includes cross-app task automation, on-screen understanding, the new Rambler voice dictation in Gboard and AI-generated widgets under. Gemini Intelligence relies on Google's on-device Gemini Nano v3 model, which is why it's limited to flagship hardware for now.

Gemini Intelligence takes a request in plain language and can also read whatever is on the screen or extract details from an image. After that, it can perform actions and complete your tasks. Samsung says automation works across 40+ apps and services. Gemini Intelligence can do everything from pulling up tickets to booking a table at a restaurant nearby.

On the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Gemini Intelligence works straight from the FlexWindow cover screen. Users can press the side key or simply speak a request. Meanwhile, the bigger inner displays on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra keep an AI chat open next to another app.

Samsung has paired this with its Galaxy AI features like Now Brief and Now Nudge features. Now Brief serves personalised briefing cards and now flags security and privacy risks as well. On the other hand, Now Nudge activates when a plan starts forming in a chat. For example, it can suggest follow-ups like a calendar check or saving an address.

By the way, Samsung said the app automation feature of Gemini Intelligence is currently available in the US and Korea only. It supports English (US) and Korean languages. In addition, more languages and regions will be expanded further by the end of this year.

"As AI becomes more agentic, mobile devices will become the most personal entry point to experiences that understand and adapt to each user," said TM Roh, CEO of Samsung Electronics.

Google introduced Gemini Intelligence at the Android Show: I/O Edition in May 2026. The company said it would bring a wave of AI capabilities on top-tier Android hardware. The rollout was originally expected to begin with the Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 series this summer, but Samsung's foldables have beaten them to it. Both lineups are now expected to receive Gemini Intelligence later this year.
