Google's Gemini app is getting smarter and more useful with each passing day. From Guided Learning to Veo 3 support, Google has been supercharging Gemini with new features. The latest one comes in the form of audio file upload support in Gemini.
VP of Google Gemini, Josh Woodward announced via X that Google Gemini will now be able to analyse and interpret uploaded audio files. This new feature is currently going live for Android, iOS and web users across the globe.

We were able to test this feature out ourselves, on both free and paid tiers. However, there is a caveat. Free users can only upload up to 10 minutes of audio files. Whereas Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscribers will be able to use Gemini to get up to 2 hours' worth of audio files interpreted and analysed.

To utilise this feature, users can click on the + icon located at the bottom left and upload an audio file to Gemini. The AI tool takes a while to analyse the audio and answer questions. The good thing is that, Gemini also adds a source link, which makes it easier to verify its response.
That said, the audio upload feature is a much-requested upgrade to Gemini, especially since users can already upload video files to Gemini and up to 10 different file formats. Additionally, Google is now treating eligible students with free Google AI Pro Plan for an entire year, so students will be able to enjoy larger audio uploads for the time being.
