Google is injecting a fresh dose of functionality into Google Photos for Android users. From rescuing your tardy but high-potential photos to speeding up videos, the latest update brings two of the most requested quality-of-life tools. AI Enhance was an experimental feature that launched with the Pixel 10 series and is finally being widely rolled out.
AI Enhance expands to more Android phones
Announced via the official Google Photos account on X, the AI Enhance feature, which was initially only available on the Pixel 8 and above, is expanding to all Android phones. Positioned right in the Photos editor, it serves as a one-tap magic fix to photos.

Instead of manually tweaking individual sliders, users can tap the AI Enhance button to help the AI pick the right lighting, brightness and shadows. It is the perfect tool for users who want their photos to pop without spending minutes on extensive manual editing. Besides, Google has also added video playback speed controls on the video side.
Termed as one of the most requested features, users can head over to the Playback Speed option and choose between a variety of playback speeds from 0.25x all the way to 2x. This could be helpful when there's a slow video that needs speeding up.

While the AI Enhance button appears to be in a wide global rollout, Google notes that the video playback speed controls are still in the earlier stages of deployment. Therefore, if users don't see the features yet, they might want to update to the latest version of Google Photos from the Play Store.
Google has been on a roll with Google Photos features as of late. The brand recently commenced a wider rollout of the Ask Photos feature, which it showcased in the previous Google I/O. It integrates Gemini in the Photos app, letting users find the exact photo they're looking for using contextual searches.
With the next Google I/O scheduled for May 2026, we can expect Google to bring a wide range of AI and editing features to Google Photos, shaping it into one of the best video editors on Android.
