At the 2025 Google I/O, one of the noteworthy AI features arrived in the form of conversational photo edits, which enabled voice-based edits within Google Photos. However, it was limited to regions like the USA and Europe. Now, the same AI tool is available in India to make editing in Google Photos a breeze.
Google Photos Now Lets Indian Users Edit Images with Voice
In a new Google India Blog post, the maker of Pixel phones announced the arrival of Conversational Edits in Google Photos. This new tool is an extension of the “Help me edit” toggle and integrates Google Gemini to enable voice and text-based inputs.
Users will be able to click on the voice prompt icon and describe the changes they want Gemini to make. It will then process the image and apply those changes as per the requirement. The same result can be achieved by providing a text-based input.

The key USP of coversational edits is convenience. This makes photo edits possible on the fly and allows for hands-free changes. Moreover, with support for regional languages like Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Bengali and Gujarati, Google is making it convenient for users to use their native tongue.
Moreover, using the new Google Photos voice prompt feature, users can also conveniently make use of personalised edits and Nano Banana in image editing. This will not only enable edits via facial recognition data but will also unlock AI stylisation using Google's capable generative image model.

For instance, users can ask Gemini to remove facial features like sunglasses, hats and more by using personalised edits. It can then further add new elements like normal glasses, face masks and more using Nano Banana's Imagen model. It's quite similar to the AI Edit Genie that featured with the Realme 15 series last year.
All three features combined, Google Photos in India will now let you perform a host of image editing functions without even needing to leave the app. The blog post mentions real-life use cases like image cleanup and restoration, composition and lighting, creative transformations and complex edit scenarios.
That said, the Google Photos voice editing feature is currently rolling out to all Android smartphones with a minimum of 4 GB RAM and at least Android 8.0. It is also important to note that all AI-edited images will carry a C2PA Content Credential to clearly label AI images.
