Apple may be about to fix one of the most quietly frustrating parts of the iPhone experience, which is typing. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is testing an updated keyboard that works more like Grammarly, suggesting alternative words in addition to standard autocorrect fixes.
iOS 27 may introduce a more intelligent AI-powered keyboard
Rather than correcting errors, the idea is to offer multiple word choices or "alternating words" like Grammarly, offering a more adaptive typing experience. This way, the keyboard will finally understand intent rather than just fixing typographical errors. While we don't know what could power it under the hood, the feature is widely expected to be powered by Apple Intelligence, which would likely limit it to newer, AI-capable Apple iPhones.

While the report suggests that no final decision on releasing it has been made, the timing is telling. It was only earlier this month that Apple fixed a persistent iPhone keyboard bug in iOS 26.4, where the keyboard failed to repeatedly register certain characters when typing quickly. This caused broken spellchecks, incorrect word suggestions and even unintended messages. With that bug now patched up, a smarter keyboard for iOS 27 is the logical next step.
The iOS 27 AI keyboard news came bundled in the same report, which suggested that Apple is also testing the ability for Siri to handle multiple commands at once. This will include checking the weather, creating a calendar appointment and sending a message, all within a single prompt. That lines up with Apple's larger iOS 27 AI ambitions, which include opening Siri up to third-party AI models like Gemini and Claude.
Both features are reportedly being developed for iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, with a full reveal expected at WWDC 2026 on June 8, 2026. Whether the keyboard upgrade makes the cut for launch day is still uncertain. But if it does, it could be one of the more quietly impactful changes Apple has made to the iPhone keyboard in years.
