Summary

  • Qualcomm is reportedly preparing a "Pro" Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 variant (SM8735 Pro).
  • This is said to be a “Turbo” version of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, likely offering higher clock speeds.
  • The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (SM8845) is reportedly underway as well.

Qualcomm could soon expand its Snapdragon 8 series with not one but two high-end processors. According to a fresh leak by tipster Digital Chat Station, the company is now preparing a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Pro and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

Internally known as the SM8735 Pro, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Pro is said to offer "Turbo" performance, hinting at higher clock speeds and stronger performance. This would mirror Qualcomm's past strategy of offering "Plus" variants of its flagship processors that offer extra horsepower.

Alongside the Pro variant of the 8s Gen 4, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (SM8845) is expected to debut in late 2025. The chipset, also referred to as Snapdragon 8s Elite by leaks and reports, will succeed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and become Qualcomm's next flagship chipset.

This could be a toned-down version of the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, said to share the same architecture. It's expected to bring further improvements in raw performance, energy efficiency and AI processing power in comparison. This chipset is likely to power premium mid-range smartphones from leading OEMs in 2026.

If both chipsets arrive as rumoured, Qualcomm could really diversify its chipset portfolio. Not to mention that this will also give manufacturers more flexibility to choose between two different chipsets for two different smartphone segments. This would also allow smartphone makers to differentiate more clearly between what's an ultra-premium flagship and what's just a flagship.
