Summary

  • Samsung has launched the Exynos 2500 chipset with 10 cores and an improved NPU.
  • It features a new 1+2+5+2 architecture with a Cortex-X925 performance core clocked at 3.3 GHz.
  • The Exynos 2500 SoC could be featured on the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 that's set to launch next month.

Samsung has finally unveiled the Exynos 2500 SoC, its latest high-end chipset that could power the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 device. It's a ten-core processor that brings generous improvements over the previous generation.

The Exynos 2500 is manufactured on Samsung's GAA (Gate-all-around) 3nm process node. It's a 10-core processor with 1x Cortex-X925 performance core clocked at 3.3 GHz, 2x Cortex-A725 cores at 2.74 GHz, 5x Cortex-A725 cores at 2.36 GHz, and 2x Cortex-A520 cores at 1.8 GHz. On the graphics front, it sports the latest Xclipse 950 GPU.

Performance-wise, Samsung claims the new core architecture improves the overall performance by 15%. The Xclipse 950 is based on AMD's RDNA3.5 architecture, and the firm claims a 28% boost in FPS in Ray tracing. Although, the overall performance improvement could be around 15% on the graphics side.

On the NPU side of things, Samsung claims the Exynos 2500 has been vastly improved with enhanced vector engine efficiency to accelerate generative AI models. This is thanks to 24K MAC NPU (2-GNPU and 2-SNPU).

As for the other details, Exynos 2500 supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. There's support for 4K at 120 Hz, up to 320 MP single camera, 8K 30 fps encoding, Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7, and lastly support for HEVC (H.265), VP9, and AV1 codecs.

The next Galaxy Unpacked could be on July 9, where the firm could unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. The Z Fold 7 could come with Snapdragon 8 Elite on board, whereas the Z Flip 7 is expected to sport the Exynos 2500 SoC.

The Exynos 2500 is no match for the Snapdragon 8 Elite on-paper, but it should be interesting to see how it fares with the same in day-to-day usage.
