Summary

  • Samsung has reportedly decided not to launch the Galaxy S26 Edge anymore.
  • Poor sales from the Galaxy S25 Edge have apparently made the brand decide to essentially kill the "Edge".
  • It could see the return of the "Plus" model as Samsung is expected to launch the S26 Pro, S26 Ultra and S26 Plus now.

Back in May 2025, Samsung decided to surprise everyone with a new Galaxy S25 Edge. It joined the new wave of "slim phone" trend with brands like Apple, Nubia, Tecno, Motorola and more joining the bandwagon. Now, a year later, it looks like Samsung isn't too happy with the Edge.

Galaxy S26 Edge possibly discontinued

South Korean publication Newspim has exclusively reported that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge has been discontinued by Samsung. This comes as a surprise since the Galaxy S26 series dummy units leaked a while back, revealing the S26 Edge with a new design.

However, the brand has decided to pull the plug on the smartphone. Apparently, the reason for this last-minute decision has been the past 6 months' sales numbers of the Galaxy S25 Edge. As per the latest report, a Samsung executive has revealed to them that the Galaxy S25 Edge failed to match the internal sales target of the brand.

Hence, Samsung has decided that the Galaxy S26 Edge is not something fans are looking forward to. Even the current S25 Edge will be discontinued once all the secured stock is sold out.

For context, South Korean Hana Investment & Securities reported that the S25 Edge only sold 1,90,000 units of the smartphone in the first month. It only managed to reach 1.31 million units by August 2025. Hence, compared to the other models, these numbers were incredibly low.

Moreover, the fact that the Galaxy S25 Edge launched at a hefty price tag also didn't help. At an upward of Rs 1 lakh, the super slim phone had some glaring compromises like a nerfed battery capacity, lack of a capable camera system, poor thermal management and more.

So obviously, the "thin phone" vanity didn't really pay off when users were able to get the best of the lot, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, for just a few thousand extra. Hence, if the Galaxy S26 Edge had launched, it would still have the same issues as the last-gen model.

That said, this unexpected last-minute revision has led Samsung to scramble all of its resources to still launch three phones at the January 2026 Unpacked event. It is already too late to start the development of a new smartphone. Hence, we believe that aside from the new S26 Pro and the Galaxy S26 Ultra, we could be looking at either the rebirth of the S26 Plus or the continuation of the compact S26.
