Telegram has been temporarily blocked in India as the government steps up efforts to prevent exam-related fraud ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination. The restriction will remain in place until June 22, 2026, according to official statements from the Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The move comes just days before the NEET UG 2026 re-test, which is scheduled to be held on June 21 after the original examination was cancelled following a question paper leak controversy. Authorities say Telegram was being used by organised cheating networks to spread misinformation and allegedly defraud candidates appearing for the exam.

MeitY, as per the government's suggestions, has imposed the temporary restriction on Telegram under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The Ministry of Education has stated that the decision was taken in response to the organised use of Telegram by cheating rackets linked to the upcoming NEET re-examination.

However, Telegram has not yet responded to the government's decision yet. We will keep you updated as and when that happens.
