Summary

  • WhatsApp’s latest iOS beta v25.19.10.80 build reveals dedicated threads feature for groups.
  • Users will be able to start threads on single messages in groups and clean up group clutter this way.
  • Such messages will show a reply count and tapping it will open the focused thread view.

Ever lost track of who replied to what in a chaotic WhatsApp group? Well, looks like to make sense of the mess, WhatsApp is testing out a new threaded replies feature for groups.

Spotted by WABetaInfo on the latest iOS beta update version 25.19.10.80, the new threaded replies feature will let users reply to individual WhatsApp group messages in a dedicated thread. This is similar to what Slack and Discord does and is much cleaner than having replies scattered throughout the main chat.

The WhatsApp feature tracker has also given us a look at the feature. Going by that, there's a small counter on each message bubble showing how many replies it has received. Tapping on this message will open the dedicated thread view for it where users can follow, read and add more to the conversation.

This will come in very handy for busy group chats where long conversations get more difficult to follow. It could mark one of the biggest usability improvements on the platform, alongside the WhatsApp draft filters spotted recently.

The feature is in development right and is not yet available to beta testers. However, since the feature was also spotted on the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.7.7 build, expect it to roll out for both iOS and Android users in the coming months.
