A white spot on your Android phone's screen can mean very different things. It could be a stuck pixel, internal pressure damage, or a software feature that you may not be aware of. Each issue has a different fix. So, if you are dealing with white spots on your Android phone's screen, follow our comprehensive guide to identify the problem and fix it.
What causes white spots on Android phone screens?
Before we jump to fixes, let's first learn why white spots appear on Android screens. It can show up on LCD displays, OLED panels, and even the best display mobile phones. Besides hardware damages, there could be some software issues too, which we have explained below.
Stuck or dead pixels
One of the most common reasons why white spots appear on Android screens is because of stuck or dead pixels. On LCD panels, each pixel has three sub-pixels including red, green, and blue and they sit in front of a white backlight.
When a pixel gets stuck, all sub-pixels allow the light to go through, and it looks like a bright white dot. On OLED screens too, a stuck sub-pixel may show a constant bright spot.
Dead pixels, on the other hand, appear black because they no longer function. So, if you have a stuck pixel that shows a white spot, there is still a chance to revive it.
Pressure damage

Pressure damage is another common cause for white spots appearing on Android screens. Screen protectors and tight cases may put undue pressure on the screen which can compress the internal layers of an LCD display. Due to the high pressure, the layers are compressed and light leaks through, which creates a bright white patch.
In addition, air bubbles or dust particles trapped under a screen protector can create pressure on the screen which results in white spots. If you are using a tempered glass protector or tight case on your Android phone, removing them should solve the white spot issue.
Notification overflow indicator
Many users confuse a white dot indicator on the Android status bar with a white spot or damaged pixel. But that is not the case. Android displays a tiny white dot in the status bar when there are too many notifications or system icons than the bar can actually fit.

On the left side, a white dot indicates overflowing app notifications and on the right side, a white dot means system icons like Bluetooth, NFC, or DND icons have been pushed due to a lack of space. It's a built-in Android function and you don't need to do anything.
"Show taps" is enabled

Some users have reported that a white dot follows finger taps everywhere on the screen, but again, it's not a display defect. It's a developer setting, which may be accidentally enabled on your Android phone. This feature shows a small white circle at every touch point. It's essentially designed for screen recordings on Android and UI debugging and you can easily fix it.
OLED burn-in and pixel degradation

We already know that on OLED screens, pixels degrade over time, especially around areas where static elements are located like the navigation bar or status bar icons. This can create bright patches or ghosting that looks like white spots. In such cases, you may have to replace your phone's screen if you've been using the same device for many years and want to continue using it.
How to fix white spots on Android phone screens
First of all, let's run a quick diagnostic to check if your Android screen has pixel damages or if it's a software issue. So, let's go ahead and test the display first.
Test your Android's screen
- Open the web browser on your Android phone and head to testmyscreen.com.
- Here, go to the hamburger icon and choose Solid Colours.
- Now, keep tapping on the screen and it will change colours across white, black, red, green, and blue backgrounds.
- If the white spot appears on all colours, it's a hardware issue, likely caused by pressure damage, or stuck/dead pixel.

Remove the screen protector and case

This is the simplest way to fix the white spot issue on Android screens and you would be surprised how often it works. Go ahead and remove the screen protector completely and take off the phone case too. Once both are out, clean up the display and check for the white spot against solid colour backgrounds. The white patch should disappear. If it doesn't, try restarting your Android phone or move to the next method.
Use Deal Pixels Test and Fix app to revive a stuck pixel
If the white spot is still stuck on the screen, you can use an Android app to fix the pixel issue. It doesn't work all the time, but might be able to revive it. It works by rapidly changing RGB colours at the pixel level, which can unstick a pixel that is stuck in one state.
- Install the Deal Pixels Test and Fix app from the Google Play Store on your Android phone.
- Now, open the app and tap on Fix Dead Pixel. Once the process is done, see if the white spot has disappeared or not.

Try JScreenFix to remove white spots on Android
JScreenFix is another browser-based tool that can repair stuck pixels and fix white spots on screens. You need to run it for 10 minutes around the affected area to fix the problem. Here is how to go about it.
- On your phone's web browser, head over to the ScreenFix website and tap on Launch JscreenFix.
- Now, drag the flickering square over the white spot and let it run for 10 minutes.

Depending on the severity of the issue, this method may fix the white spot on your Android screen.
Disable Show taps in Developer options
As I mentioned above, if the white dot moves with your finger every time you touch the screen, it's because of a developer setting which is accidentally turned on. You can find this option even on the latest Android 16 version. Here is how to disable it.
- Open the Settings app and enable Developer options on your Android phone.
- Once enabled, scroll down on the Developer options screen and turn off the Show taps toggle under "Input".

The persistent white dot might disappear from your phone's screen if it was indeed caused from the "Show taps" feature.
Update your Android phone
Phone manufacturers regularly push software updates that include bug fixes, GPU driver patches, display fixes, and more. A software update might fix the white spot issue on your Android phone's screen.
Regardless of which phone you use, the process will remain more or less similar to how you can update a Pixel Phone. Here's how to do it:
- Open the Settings app on your Android phone and go to Software update.
- Here, check for the latest update and install it.
- Now restant your phone and check if the white spot persists.

Get a screen replacement
If none of the above methods worked, you are dealing with a hardware-level issue, which could be caused by damaged backlight, cracked diffuser layer, or internal pressure damage. In that case, the only option is to get a screen replacement. Go to an authorised service centre where genuine OEM parts are available.
And that's how you resolve white spot issues on Android phone screens. As a word of caution, you should avoid sitting on your phone to prevent pressure damage on the screen. And always use a quality screen protector and case that doesn't squeeze the display upon pressure or impact.
