Apple has been doubling down on iPhone security lately, with new iOS updates, plugging vulnerabilities and issuing critical hot fixes. With the upcoming WWDC 2026 event expected to unveil the iOS 27 update, Apple has now issued a critical security network requirement advisory for developers and IT administrators.

Apple Issues iOS 27 Network Security Compliances

As per the new Apple Support network security requirement directive, starting with iOS 27, outdated and non-compliant TLS configurations will refuse server connections. Device management service developers have been warned of potential connection errors if they fail to meet the stricter network requirements before the iOS 27 release.

IT administrators have been asked to audit their network environment, update the server configurations and issue advisories to external vendors. The new network security requirements will affect the following verticals:

  • Mobile device management (MDM)
  • Declarative Device Management (DDM)
  • Automated Device Enrollment
  • Configuration profile installation
  • App installation, including enterprise app distribution
  • Software updates

Only network connections to SCEP servers (while installing a configuration profile or resolving a DDM asset) and content caching servers (even when requesting assets related to app installation or software updates) are exempted from these requirements.

In order to ensure up-to-date network protocols, developers will need to upgrade their servers to support TLS 2.1 and above, only use ATS-compliant ciphersuites and valid ATS standard certificates. For a detailed guideline, Apple has issued dedicated developer documentation and has asked them to install the Network Diagnostics Logging Profile on a test device running the upcoming OS.
