Apple is laying off more than 200 employees across several software and hardware teams, including those working on Siri, Apple Vision Pro and AI features. The restructuring comes as Apple shifts resources toward its newer AI priorities and upcoming products.
Apple Restructures Siri and AI Teams
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, around 100 jobs are reportedly being cut from the Vision Pro department. Meanwhile, another 100 positions are being eliminated across Siri and related software teams.
Additionally, Apple is also reducing staff within its Intelligent Systems Experience team, which works on AI-powered features across Apple's devices.
Apple confirmed the restructuring, saying it is realigning some teams as it works to deliver new experiences. The company also said new roles will be created as part of the changes and that affected employees can apply for other positions within Apple.
The Siri layoffs come as Apple continues rebuilding its voice assistant around a new Siri AI experience and a dedicated Siri app in iOS 27. Bloomberg reports that the updated system requires different expertise, prompting Apple to remove some existing roles while creating positions better suited to the new direction.
The changes also highlight Apple's broader effort to reorganise its AI teams as the technology becomes increasingly integrated across its software and services.

Vision Pro Gaming and Immersive Video Take a Hit

Apple is also scaling back parts of its Vision Pro operation. The Cupertino giant is reportedly largely shutting down its dedicated gaming team and reducing the size of the unit responsible for immersive video content.
Producing immersive video is expensive, with individual episodes reportedly costing millions of dollars and requiring multiple production crews. Given the Vision Pro's relatively small user base, Apple is now expected to produce fewer videos internally and rely more heavily on third-party studios.
Gaming has also struggled to gain significant traction on the headset, contributing to the decision to scale back its dedicated team.
Apple has reportedly told employees that Vision Pro and visionOS aren't being discontinued. The company is instead redirecting some of its focus toward future products, including smart glasses. A new Vision Pro model is still reportedly being considered, although it may not arrive until late 2028.
The Vision Pro launched in February 2024 at $3,499 (approximately Rs 3,35,000) and is now priced at $3,699. While Apple introduced it as a major step toward spatial computing, its high price and bulky design have limited its appeal among mainstream consumers. This is something even I talked about when I first went hands-on with the Vision Pro.
The latest restructuring suggests Apple is narrowing its investment in some Vision Pro-related areas while putting more resources behind AI and its next generation of devices. It only makes sense, since the ongoing RAM crisis has been making things extra difficult for every tech giant.
Not too long ago, Apple increased the prices of its products like iPads, Macs and Apple Watches to keep up with the worsening crisis. Although iPhones were spared then, they are widely expected to get price hikes alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max launch next month.
Only time will tell what else the RAMageddon has in store for us.
