Summary

  • The iPhone 17 Pro could feature an all 48 MP camera setup with an improved 48 MP telephoto snapper.
  • The improved telephoto could add 8x zoom capabilities and give out sharper images.
  • Rumours point toward Samsung increasing the size of the camera bump on its upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The Apple event is all set for September 9, 2025, where Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 17 series. While the specifications of the devices have been tightly under wraps, the latest rumours suggest potential improvements in cameras over the last generation.

According to a Korean publication Newsis, the iPhone 17 Pro could feature an all 48 MP camera setup. This could consist of the same 48 MP primary and ultrawide snappers as last year, but joining them could be an upgraded 48 MP telephoto camera with up to 8x optical zoom.

The raised camera bar on the iPhone 17 Pro could be the result of Apple wanting to fit better camera hardware. Rumours also suggest that Apple has given up on the aesthetics of the Pro models in favour of improved hardware. Other rumours point toward Apple announcing a Pro camera app for iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max in the event.

The source also suggests that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could get a revamped camera bar. While the information about the potential design of the device is scarce, we do know via a recent leak that the phone could feature more rounded corners.

Besides, the phone is expected to arrive with Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Galaxy, the same 5,000mAh battery, but with upgraded 60W charging and slimmer bezels measuring just 1.32 mm. Storage-wise, it could offer up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage.

Back to Apple, the Cupertino giant is expected to launch four models in its Awe dropping event – iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and the iPhone 17 Air. The Air could be the slimmest at 5.5 mm, while the iPhone 17 is expected to be similar to the iPhone 16 in many ways.

All the devices are expected to arrive with Apple's A19 and A19 Pro chipsets, with the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max getting a RAM bump from 8 GB to 12 GB.

Stick around for our comprehensive coverage of the event, as we will be delving into the specifics of all the devices launching at the event.
