The upcoming iPhone 17 series is now rumoured to double down as a wireless charger, capable of powering accessories like AirPods and the Apple Watch. However, the feature is said to be limited to only the Pro and Pro Max in the lineup.
Chinese leaker Fixed Focus Digital took to Weibo to reveal this piece of information. However, this is not the first time that the potential feature has surfaced online. Earlier reports suggested that Apple has been testing out 7.5W reverse wireless charging for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Now, while the capability has been reportedly explored in previous generations, Apple has yet to implement it in a shipping phone. But, this could be it. Since the switch to USB-C with the iPhone 15 lineup, iPhones have only offered wired reverse charging at up to 4.5W.

Besides, not too long ago, reports emerged suggesting that the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup could also support the Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard. This will enable speeds of up to 25W with compatible third-party chargers, which is a significant jump from the 15W limit on current iPhones.
However, as per a MacRumors report, the existing iPhone 16 lineup (excluding the iPhone 16e) will be getting Qi 2.2 support as well via an upcoming iOS 26 update. Besides, quite recently, Belkin's Qi 2.2 chargers were released as well, thereby solidifying the reliability of the latest leak.
Apart from that, very recently, Apple's three-year plan for its iPhones surfaced online which hints at major redesigns. The iPhone 17 colours as well as designs are also known, thanks to leaks.
Apple's iPhone 17 series launch is expected to happen on September 9, 2025. So, thankfully, we are just roughly two weeks away from knowing all the official details.
