Those looking forward to buying the base iPhone 18 will be happy to know that a new report suggests it could get a massive boost to its memory. It looks like the newly overhauled Siri AI with the iOS 27 update requires a lot more firepower to run as intended.
iPhone 18 Could Arrive with 12 GB RAM
According to South Korea-based KB Securities (via DigiTimes), Apple's Siri AI push requires 12 GB of RAM for iPhones to run it well. That's exactly why the iPhone 17 can't take advantage of the new expressive Siri voices and enhanced accuracy for system-wide dictation.
For now, these two advanced Siri AI features are limited to only the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air. So, the 8 GB RAM cap on other Apple iPhones seems to be quite the bottleneck, which is why Apple will reportedly fix it by offering 50% more RAM on the iPhone 18.

However, the base iPhone 17, along with the older iPhone 16 series and the iPhone 15 Pro, can still make use of Siri AI's personal context, on-screen awareness, the dedicated Siri app, Visual Intelligence and other features.
Given how only recently Apple settled its $250 million lawsuit due to Apple Intelligence taking too long to mature, it makes sense why the Cupertino giant may not be taking chances with the iPhone 18. By bringing the full suite of Siri AI features to the base next-generation iPhone, Apple is only making its AI features more accessible to a wider range of users.
Not to mention that, reports also suggest that the iPhone 18 price may remain unchanged at $799 (Rs 79,900 in India). If that's indeed true, the iPhone 18 could potentially be the brand's bestselling iPhone in recent years.
While the rest of the industry is plagued by the ongoing RAM crisis, Apple has a chance to give users something very special here and we're all for it.
