Google isn't slowing down its software development cycle. Hot on the heels of the Android 17 Beta 4 update that rolled out last week, the brand has officially initiated the next phase of Android 17's testing program, Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1. Unlike major releases, QPR1 Beta 1 brings quality of life improvements and bug fixes.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 Is Here!
According to Google, Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 will test the upcoming September Feature Drop. The update doesn't add any major features, but it's expected to lay the groundwork for them. Besides, Google has squashed several disruptive backend bugs.

With a pretty reasonable size of 255 MB, it addresses a handful of specific stability and audio issues that have been plaguing users. Here's the changelog:
- Audio Processing: Resolved an issue where uncontrollable hardware audio processing was causing several phase cancellations and distortions during voice calls on VoIP apps.
- Audio Output: Fixed a bug that caused direct audio output to fail on devices using the AIDL audio HAL when playing streams longer than 5 seconds.
- System Freezes: Patched a severe memory issue within the Terminal app that triggered an Application Not Responding (ANR) error, which previously caused the entire device to freeze.
- Printer Crashes: Corrected a glitch in the Default Print Service that crashed the system during low-ink conditions, preventing users from finalising print jobs.
The new build number CP31.260403.005.A1 is now rolling out as an OTA update for users currently enrolled in the Android 17 Beta program. The update is rolling out in batches and will be available on Pixel 6, all the way to the latest Pixel 10, including the Pixel Tablet and Pixel foldables.
That said, for those waiting for the stable Android 17 update, users will need to opt out of Beta from the Android Beta Signup website. A "downgrade" update will then follow, which should be ignored until the stable update rolls out.
With Google I/O 2026 confirmed for May 19, 2026, we should hear more about the Android 17 features and the version's official rollout schedule. Until then, stay tuned.
