At the 2025 Google I/O, amidst the flurry of new AI features, one stood out among the crowd. Google introduced a new Virtual Apparel Try On feature to change the way people shop online forever. It was initially rolled out in the USA and gained a lot of traction and popularity instantly. Now, the same AI tool is available in India to take online shoppers by storm.

Google treats India to Virtual Apparel Try On

In a new Google India Blog post, Google announced the launch of Virtual Apparel Try On in India. This new tool will help shoppers across the country to first try and experiment with different outfits before finally placing an order.

To try this new feature, users will need to keep an eye out for a new Try it on button within online listings. Once clicked, Google will make use of a custom Imagen model that understands the dimensions and depth of the human body.

It will then take shoppers to the Try it on page, where they can upload their full-body images to get custom recommendations based on what they were searching for. The AI can even understand different textures of the cloth and how it behaves based on the product images.

This makes this a very true-to-life experience, even though it is virtual. Also, to make the Virtual Apparel Try On feature a seamless experience, Google has mentioned some of the key requirements for the AI to properly work. For starters, only full-body pictures are supported.

Users are urged to only upload single photos and avoid group photos. Lighting should be proper for the AI to understand depth and fitting. Once satisfied with the look, there will also be the option to bookmark the AI-generated look or share it directly with friends and family.
