Earlier this month, leaked iPhone 18 Pro files from Tata Electronics revealed a bunch of highly confidential data not meant for public view. Now, as part of that leak, a new report has surfaced online revealing iPhone 18 Pro Max camera specifications.
iPhone 18 Pro Max Camera Details Leaked
An exclusive report from NotebookCheck has revealed ISP diagnostics log data for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The log has seemingly confirmed a new Sony IMX905 main camera sensor for the smartphone and support for variable aperture. As you can see in the image below, the variable aperture calibration strings show off the actuator data via a calibration block.

This confirms longstanding rumours of a variable aperture upgrade for the iPhone 18 Pro series. Both the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will become the first Apple iPhones to feature a variable aperture camera.

Moreover, this also confirms previous industry chatter stating that the variable aperture implementation will only apply to the main camera due to added mechanical complexity and higher production costs.
This is because the report claims that all the other cameras and sensors on the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be the same as the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This includes a Sony IMX973 telephoto camera, a Sony IMX972 ultra-wide angle lens and a Sony IMX591 sensor for the LiDAR scanner.
Even the selfie camera is said to bring the same Sony IMX914 sensor from the iPhone 17 Pro Max. While the report has not mentioned the exact megapixels of all the sensors, we can expect the implementation to look something like this:
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | Expected Camera Specs |
|---|---|
| Main | 48 MP Sony IMX905 sensor with variable aperture |
| Ultra-wide | 48 MP Sony IMX972 sensor |
| Telephoto | 48 MP Sony IMX973 sensor |
| Selfie | 18 MP Sony IMX914 sensor |
That said, at the time of writing, this is merely a leak and it is hard to verify the authenticity of the report. Hence, we will urge readers to take the information with a pinch of salt. Since the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to debut in September 2026, we still have a few more months left. So, stay tuned.
