Nothing's newly teased Phone 4b has sparked plenty of speculation over where it fits in the company's expanding smartphone lineup. Well, the brand is now clearing it all up, with fresh comments from Nothing's co-founder now shedding light on the purpose behind the series.
Nothing Explains What the (b) Series Means
In an X post, Nothing's Co-Founder Akis Evangelidis shared more information about what (b) in the upcoming Nothing phone series stands for. Framing the question rhetorically, he explained that the letter doesn't stand for any specific word. Rather, it is simply a continuation of the brand's existing naming system, used to indicate an entirely new product segment.

Akis then delved into how the (a) series has been Nothing's strongest suit and says that the (b) series will build on the success of the same by expanding into a new segment, while still maintaining a clear product hierarchy.
The context of this becomes clearer as he goes on to explain that the a series Nothing phones sit below Nothing's flagships as an affordable offering. This pretty much indirectly confirms that the b series will sit below the a series as a budget smartphone series. Besides, having (b) represent another series should avoid complex naming as the portfolio expands.

Nothing's recent teaser hinted that the first B-series Nothing phone could be called the Nothing Phone 4b, and could sit below the existing Nothing Phone 4a smartphone. With Nothing cancelling the CMF Phone 3 Pro, the b series could potentially fill the gap with ultra-affordable phones with Dimensity 6,7 series or Snapdragon 6 series in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment.
While details about its price and specifications are not yet confirmed, more information should be revealed as we inch closer to launch, so stay tuned.
