OnePlus and BEO are reportedly working together on a new display material for the OnePlus 16, said to outperform even Samsung's M-series displays.

OnePlus 16 Could Feature a BOE-Made X4 Display

According to tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo, the upcoming OnePlus 16 could get a brand-new X4 light-emitting display material, jointly developed by BOE and OnePlus. The biggest claim of the leak is that the new X4 material outperforms Samsung's M-series panel in "almost every key aspect".

If true, BOE's implementation of smartphone displays could dethrone Samsung, whose M-series OLED panels have long been the benchmark for the industry. DCS claims two key benefits of the new BOE X4 display material: low power consumption and double the lifespan compared to previous generations.

These two parameters are especially important since the OnePlus 16 could feature a 185 Hz display. High refresh rate panels are among the biggest reasons for faster battery drain. Hence, efficiency and lifespan boosts help displays hold high brightness and retain colour accuracy over years.

For context, the OnePlus 15 featured a third-gen BOE X3 panel, bringing a 30% improvement in panel longevity, a 10% reduction in power consumption and an 11.8% improvement in colour shift over the previous generation.

Moving on, DCS claims that the OnePlus 16 is expected to stick with a flat display while introducing ultra-thin bezels on all four sides. This is worth noting since the OnePlus 15 already brought some of the thinnest bezels of 2026 flagship phones in India. We also mentioned the same in our OnePlus 15 review.

Aside from that, the X4 display upgrade on the OnePlus 16 is also said to accompany an upgraded circuit design. This is tipped to enable additional smoothness-focused features and several high-end display technologies.

OnePlus China President Li Jie recently confirmed that the OnePlus 16 will feature three exclusive gaming technologies. These upgrades will span the "Wind Chaser Gaming Core", "High Refresh Rate" and "Esports Triple Chip", although the brand hasn't expanded on these yet.

That said, the OnePlus 16 is expected to debut in October 2026 in China. The brand has not started teasing the phone yet, but we can expect that to happen soon, so stay tuned.
