OnePlus has had a turbulent start to 2026, finding itself in headlines for reasons far removed from product launches or software updates. From legal scrutiny and tax disputes to viral claims suggesting OnePlus is being shut down, speculation around the brand's future has intensified online. Now, with shutdown claims looming large, the company has assured fans and stakeholders that the OnePlus dismantling rumours are fake.
OnePlus India CEO denies shutdown allegations
Robin Liu, OnePlus India CEO, has made an X post confirming that India operations will continue normally and the brand is not shutting down anytime soon. This is a direct rebuttal to tech publication Android Headlines' report, which claims that Oppo is shutting down OnePlus.

It managed to gain a lot of traction and eyeballs online before OnePlus had to officially step in and clarify. Liu's statement has further highlighted the need to only trust official sources. He has assured fans and stakeholders that the brand will operate as expected in India.
However, the brand has not commented on the recent OnePlus 15s and OnePlus Open 2 cancellation reports. Both OnePlus phones are highly anticipated and if these claims turn out to be true, fans will be extremely disappointed. At the time of writing, while we appreciate the timely assurance and update from OnePlus, no one knows what the rest of the year will hold.

OnePlus is already facing a legal lawsuit in India for unpaid taxes amounting to Rs 93 crore in relation to the lifetime free green line warranty programme. Separately, the brand even disclosed that it has received several other show-cause and scrutiny notices from GST authorities.
Even the Taiwan authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Pete Lau, the co-founder of OnePlus. So, there are clear signs that the brand has been getting thwarted left and right with scrutiny and legalities. Also, to exist in a competitive smartphone space like India, brands are always on their toes. As a result, the OnePlus dismantled report was taken understandably seriously. However, it's good to see that the brand is holding its ground and is not shutting down its operations.
