The next generation of Android 17-based UIs is being worked upon and one of the most exciting releases of this year is ColorOS. New information about ColorOS 17 suggests that Oppo won't bring any major user interface changes and features. Instead, it will largely be sticking to polishing the existing UI and fixing bugs.

ColorOS 17 Will Focus on User Experience over Redesign

The information comes from ColorOS' Design Director Chen Xi, who confirmed that ColorOS 17 will focus more on polish than new UI changes. The discussion began when tipster Digital Chat Station shared that ColorOS 17 will bring a massive redesign, including adaptive colour picking and more translucent UI elements.

The tipster previously also noted that the update could bring rounded corners and enhanced rendering of light. However, quoting the tipster's original post, Chen Xi dismissed these claims and clarified that the leaked descriptions don't refer to Oppo's software and are being confused with the "light field design" term Oppo already uses to represent its design language.

He pointed out that ColorOS 17 is expected to focus heavily on core user experience improvements and system optimisations, rather than an extensive interface redesign. Chen also explained that the alternate versions that are scheduled for summer are usually meant for optimising system performance and not adding new features.

That said, ColorOS hasn't been devoid of features at all. For starters, the brand recently pushed  ColorOS 16.1 to eligible devices, which brings a host of design improvements. It expands the transparency and light effects to more elements of the UI, completely revamps the lock screen media player and shifts the position of fluid cloud to the bottom for better reachability.

ColorOS 17 is currently expected to make its official debut on the Oppo Find X10 series in China this September 2026. A wider rollout is expected to follow soon by the end of this month and to all the ColorOS 17 supported Oppo smartphones later this year, so stay tuned.
