Qualcomm is working on its next generation of flagship chipsets, which are expected to be much more powerful than the last generation. But with great power comes great manufacturing costs, which could end up raising the processor prices significantly. However, Qualcomm might be working on a solution to counter that.
Qualcomm Could Use Silicon Binning to Lower Chip Costs
According to the details shared by tipster Reptalica on X, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro lineup could arrive in six variants for added flexibility. The processors could let manufacturers mix and match internal components, including the RAM and core clock speeds, to offer the chipset in flagship phones at more affordable prices.

The core of this strategy lies in how Qualcomm is splitting its prototypes across different memory standards and clock speeds. The leak suggests three tiers, with each further divided into "AC" and "BC" models.
The AC variants could be more premium versions, which could feature the latest LPDDR6 RAM and high-speed UFS 5.0 storage. They're likely to show up in upcoming performance-based flagships such as the OnePlus 16. These will be reserved for top-of-the-line flagship smartphones. The BC variants will support LPDDR5X RAM, allowing manufacturers to save on costs.

Besides, with a total of six processor variants on the horizon, Qualcomm is also expected to use silicon-binning, where the manufacturer could sell slightly dialled-back versions of the processor at much lower price points. This should aid in reducing the overhead from a manufacturing standpoint, amidst the already challenging situation due to the ongoing RAM crisis.
Component pricing still remains a major hurdle for manufacturers, and with TSMC's advanced 2nm manufacturing costing a lot, the prices could further peak if Qualcomm doesn't introduce a binned approach. Therefore, while it may seem like the performance will take a hit, flagships would still be affordable to the masses.
More details about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro should surface as we inch closer to a potential launch at the Snapdragon Summit 2026, expected to be held in November 2026. Qualcomm is also expected to unveil the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 at the summit, so stay tuned.
