Huawei kicks off the week with the Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold launch, debuting in China on September 7 at 14:30 CST (or 12:00 PM IST), alongside the consumer rollout of HarmonyOS 7.

The event will also mark the Mate XT 2's status as the first phone to ship with HarmonyOS 7 out of the box. Huawei has already confirmed the Huawei Mate XT 2 design with a new "Wing Fold" mechanism where both halves of the display close inward, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. This protects the inner foldable screen and adds a separate outer display with 3D facial recognition support.

Huawei says the phone measures just 3.5mm at its thinnest unfolded point, with pre-orders already confirming four configurations, from 16 GB+512 GB up to 16 GB+2 TB.

The top variant bundles a privacy display, similar to what debuted on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, and stylus support. The phone will ship in Obsidian Black, White and Purple colourways, with the top storage tier exclusive to Purple.

Specifications remain unofficial for now, but past Huawei Mate XT 2 leaks point to a Kirin 9050 Pro chipset with a heavy on-device AI focus and a 6,000mAh battery. A reworked hinge is also designed to reduce the visible crease and better handle folding stress compared to the first-gen Huawei Mate XT Ultimate.

2. iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra (Fold)

Apple's "Surprise and Shine" event on September 9, 2026, at 10:30 PM IST, will see the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple's first foldable iPhone all go official. Notably, this is also the first iPhone keynote led by John Ternus, who takes over as CEO following Tim Cook's exit.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to retain their 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively. However, the phones could feature a shrunken Dynamic Island, thanks to Apple reportedly moving the Face ID flood illuminator beneath the display.

Both models are tipped to run the new Apple A20 Pro chip, which is based on TSMC's 2nm process, paired with 12 GB of RAM. They are also said to bring the biggest camera upgrade in years, which is a variable-aperture main camera, a first for iPhones.

Pricing is expected to rise by $100 to $200 over last year, putting the Pro around $1,299 (approximately Rs 1,22,500) and the Pro Max near $1,399 (approximately Rs 1,32,000) in the US.

The bigger story, though, is Apple's first foldable, widely expected to be called the iPhone Ultra. Leaks point to a titanium-and-aluminium build measuring just 4.5 - 4.8mm thick when unfolded.

In addition, the foldable iPhone is said to feature a crease-reducing panel reportedly sourced from Samsung, dual 48 MP rear cameras and a switch to Touch ID over Face ID due to space constraints.

Expect a hefty iPhone Ultra price tag, too, with leaked storage tiers suggesting $2,320 (approximately Rs 2,19,500) for 256 GB and $2,900 (approximately Rs 2,74,000) for 1 TB.

Given how much rides on this particular Apple event, both in terms of price hikes due to the RAM crisis and Apple's first real foldable, it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Moreover, these are not the only important upcoming smartphones in September 2026. We will also see Mivi enter the smartphone market with the Mivi One 5G India launch scheduled for later this month.

This month is certainly going to be quite packed, so stay tuned for all the updates.
