Lately, audio manufacturers and smartphone brands alike have been exploring the open-ear earbud style. While brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, Motorola and even Ai+ have already embraced the form factor, a major leak has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Buds Able are next in line.

Samsung Explores Open Ear Style Galaxy Earbuds

Folks over at SammyGuru managed to unearth a reference to a new pair of Galaxy earbuds called the Galaxy Buds Able. Buried deep within the recent One UI firmware source code, the upcoming Galaxy earbuds were also spotted earlier by Android Authority and have been certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). However, this time, we have our first look at what appears to be the alleged design of the Galaxy Buds Able from Samsung.

From the above image, it is clear that Samsung, for the first time, is exploring the possibility of an open ear style TWS design. It reveals the same C-shaped connector stem and two distinct clip-on elements, which we have already seen with the likes of the Nothing Ear (Open) and the Moto Buds Loop.

Also, on one end, the existence of a grille-like shape is clearly visible, which is what will rest in front of the ear canal. The other half, housing the electronic components, including the battery, will sit behind the earlobe. Moreover, the report claims that Galaxy Buds Able will use bone conduction technology to deliver sound, similar to the fairly recent Sony LinkBuds Clip and the Huawei FreeClip earbuds.

For those unaware, open ear TWS use two different sound delivery mechanisms - air conduction and bone conduction. While air conduction is what most open ear TWS use, it is said to be less effective since the sound is often said to be muddled and less pronounced. However, with bone conduction, instead of pushing air, the TWS sends vibrations which then oscillate the eardrum to deliver sound.

Hence, bone conducting open ear TWS are more effective as they often send vibrations via the cheekbones for minimal audio loss and heightened auditory effect. So, with the Galaxy Buds Able following bone conduction, they will be able to deliver a premium open ear experince.

However, compared to traditional in-ear style TWS, open ear will always struggle to deliver the highest quality of sound and ambient noise cancellation. They are designed to help users stay aware of their environment while still enjoying music, taking calls and perform activities.

That said, details about Galaxy Buds Able are limited at the moment. We do not even know when it will launch and with what specifications. However, if the recent Galaxy Buds 4 and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro are any indication, Samsung's first-ever open ear TWS will deliver on the premium experience fans have come to expect.
