Summary

  • Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is said to gain a new video softening and autofocus speed and sensitivity control features.
  • Both options will help users reduce image sharpening and control the speed and sensitivity of autofocus on the camera.
  • Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S26 Ultra at Galaxy Unpacked, which could be scheduled for January 24, 2026.

With the year 2026 fast approaching, all eyes are now on the Galaxy 26 series, which is expected to go official in the next few months. We have already heard plenty of rumours regarding the smartphones, especially the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Now a new report has outed some of the key camera features of the upcoming phone.

Galaxy S26 Ultra tipped to get new camera features

The good folks over at Android Authority have revealed that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will gain new video softening and autofocus speed and sensitivity control features via the Camera Assistant module inside the Good Lock app. A recent APK teardown of the OneUI 8.5 Beta 2 update has reportedly spilt the tea on the existence of these new options.

As per the report, the new video softening feature will help users manually adjust the skin tones, making them smoother in the post process. It can also turn handy when reducing footage noise and achieving a less sharpened look, in favour of natural colours and details. It is said to work exactly like the existing “Picture softening” option inside the Camera Assistant module.

Talking about the autofocus speed and sensitivity control option, the publication claims that it is intended for users to manually adjust the speed and sensitivity of the autofocus during live footage. It is intended to help in better focus and refocus framing when jumping between subjects, giving a more stabilised and focused final video output.

Now, while both these options are present inside the current OneUI 8.5 build, they are disabled by default. So, if they at all materialise into reality, expect the next Ultra smartphone from Samsung to bring them over.

As for the other details, thanks to previous leaks, we already know that the smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and feature an upgraded 60W charging, along with 25W Qi 2.2 wireless charging. It will also reportedly boast a 6.89-inch 2K 120 Hz 2x AMOLED LTPO display. Camera specs will likely include a 200 MP main camera, a 10 MP telephoto, a 50 MP periscope and a 50 MP ultra-wide angle sensor.

That said, Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked could be scheduled for January 24, 2026, where it's expected to unveil the Galaxy S26 series. However, other rumours also point to a February 2026 launch window. So, we might have to wait for two more months before the next Galaxy S lineup phones go finally official.
