Rumours about Apple developing a foldable iPhone have been circulating for several years. While we are yet to see what the Cupertino brand has in store for us, its rival Samsung, is already into its seventh generation foldable. And from the looks of it, Apple has nothing but appreciation for the same (however unintentional).
In an embarrassing mix-up, the Apple Support page on Weibo made a post regarding the benefits of parental controls on Apple devices. However, the accompanying video praised the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 instead.
This "competitor appreciation post" was first spotted by tipster Ice Universe, who shared the same via X. Ever since, the mishap has gone viral, with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 promo video post taken down at the time of writing.

It is safe to assume that this was a mistake and not an intentional post. As for who is responsible, the going theory is that someone at an outsourced marketing agency, handling media assets for both Samsung and Apple, hit the "post" button without double-checking the media file being uploaded.
Or it could be a secret Samsung admirer working at Apple. Either way, the timing of this fumble is both funny and ironic. While Apple is yet to launch its first foldable smartphone, Samsung holds the majority stake in the foldable market.
It is already in its seventh iteration, and the newly launched Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 have further showcased Samsung's lead into the foldable space. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes with a large edge-to-edge 4.1-inch 120 Hz AMOLED outer display and a 6.9-inch Full HD+ 120 Hz LTPO AMOLED 2X main foldable panel.

It is powered by the Samsung Exynos 2500 processor and is backed by a 4,300mAh battery. In terms of durability, it has an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance and is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 (cover display and back).
Apart from this, there is a 50 MP main camera paired with a 12 MP ultra-wide lens and a 10 MP selfie shooter. Additionally, the flip smartphone runs on One UI 8 based on Android 16, with support for seven years of software and security updates.

On the Apple side of things, the first folding iPhone is expected to hit the shelves in late 2026. It will most likely follow the book-style foldable pathway, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the newly launched Vivo X Fold 5. It will reportedly feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer display.
Apple has apparently partnered with Samsung Display for the production of foldable OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone. It is also expected to implement a new laser-drilled display metal plates on the foldable to minimise the crease on the inner display by distributing the bending stress for a more "crease-free" experience.
According to industry insiders, the foldable iPhone will be positioned as a premium, ultra-high-end device priced above $2,000 (approximately Rs 1,72,500). This will make it Apple's most expensive iPhone to date. It will also reportedly debut with iOS 27 and the latest Apple silicon.
With that said, although the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is out for everyone to enjoy and "appreciate", only time will tell how Apple's debut foldable will fare against the ever-evolving and mature competition.
