The standard Vivo X500 may no longer play second fiddle to its Pro siblings. According to a new leak, Vivo is planning significant camera upgrades for its upcoming flagship, including a new periscope telephoto camera and an upgraded primary sensor.
Vivo X500 Could Get a 64 MP Periscope Camera
Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station took to Weibo to share that the upcoming standard Vivo X500, referred to as "medium cup", could receive serious optical upgrades. For starters, the smartphone could replace the 50 MP telephoto with a 64 MP 1/2-inch sensor with the same 70 mm focal length as the Vivo X300.

Beyond telephoto, the main 200 MP 1/1.4-inch sensor is being purged for a larger 50 MP 1/1.28-inch unit. This sensor could be Sony's LYT838 or LYT910 LOFIC sensors that feature hardware-level components to improve the dynamic range. Combined with its slightly larger sensor size, there should be significant improvements in the overall quality.
Historically, base flagships have often skipped periscope upgrades to keep costs down. However, by upgrading to a 64 MP periscope, Vivo seems to be holding off on compromising on image quality even during the ongoing RAM crisis. Moreover, if earlier reports are accurate, the Vivo X500 Pro cameras could also be led by a 64 MP primary sensor, although this is said to be the Sony IMX06H sensor.
Beyond the cameras, leaks suggest that the Dimensity 9600 Pro could power the Vivo X500 series. Vivo is expected to launch the regular Vivo X500 along with the Vivo X500 Pro and a new Vivo X500 Pro Max in September 2026.
So, with the expected launch timeline still a few months away, more details about the Vivo X500 series are expected to surface soon.
