The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra's Privacy Display was certainly a unique addition to the lineup this year, keeping unwarranted screen peekers at bay. Well, new information suggests that the Xiaomi 18 may be borrowing this interesting privacy display feature from Samsung.
Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max Could Feature a 2K Display
As per Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo, the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are currently being tested with a Privacy Display implementation similar to what we have seen with the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The tipster further claims that Xiaomi's privacy display implementation will be similar to what Samsung does, by utilising both software and hardware. For those unaware, the Galaxy S26 Ultra achieves a peek-free screen by utilising three separate display layers- RL2, VRL and RL1.
The main component of the privacy display feature is the VRL Liquid Glass Layer, as it sends a specific electric voltage to the other two layers to dim certain pixels on the screen.

However, when enabled, Privacy Display downgrades the screen resolution and even though the Galaxy S26 Ultra has a QHD+ panel, it seems evident. This is something we have talked about in our Galaxy S26 review as well. Hence, maybe that is why DCS says that the lineup will use 2K AMOLED panels instead of the 1.5K ones inside the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
This is further substantiated by leaker Smart Pikachu, who has made a separate post revealing some more details of the Xiaomi 18 series. His leak mentions a custom 200 MP LOFIC camera sensor, an unchanged rear display like the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, improved brightness and HyperOS 4 visuals similar to Apple's Liquid Glass.

This falls in line with a previous Xiaomi 18 Pro camera leak, which hinted at a 200 MP main sensor and a 200 MP periscope sensor for the smartphone. Apart from that, the phones are also said to arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor.
That said, the Xiaomi 18 series is rumoured to launch sometime in September 2026, as is the tradition with the company's flagship launches. So, expect to see more details surface in the coming months.
