Summary

  • Xiaomi's next in-house chipset could likely debut in September 2026 in a flagship device.
  • The processor is expected to feature Arm's latest CPU architecture with Cortex-X9 cores.
  • Xring O2 could be manufactured on TSMC's 3 nm process and may boast a Xiaomi-developed modem.

Xiaomi is planning to unveil the next iteration of its home-grown SoC, the Xring O2, next year. The processor could be based on Arm's latest architecture, featuring performance improvements.

According to tipster Fixed Focus Digital, the Xiaomi Xring O2 could launch around September 2026. For those unaware, Arm's latest architecture claims around 15% improvement in IPC (instructions per cycle).

For the uninitiated, this could mean the processor can execute more instructions in the same amount of time, leading to faster processing speeds and better performance. MediaTek's upcoming Dimensity 9500 SoC which is tipped to launch in September 2025, could feature Arm's latest architecture with Cortex-X9 cores, resulting in performance gains.

Xiaomi's Xring O1 was used in the Xiaomi 15s Pro. However, with no Xiaomi 16s this year and the Xring O2 is reportedly launching in 2026, we're not sure which smartphone it may debut on.

The Xring O1 benchmarks suggested it was a great debut SoC for Xiaomi, delivering greatly on performance, almost on par with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. It's a 10-core chipset manufactured on TSMC's 3 nm (N3E) process, featuring Arm's Immortalis G925 MC16 GPU, alongside Xiaomi's in-house 4th-gen ISP and a 6-core NPU.

The Xring O2 will likely also be based on TSMC's 3nm process, but a few reports suggest Xiaomi is working on developing its own 5G modem. This could solve the battery drain issues that the Xring O1 reportedly brought due to the MediaTek T800 5G modem.

If the rumours are anything to go by, the Xring O2 could launch sometime when Qualcomm would be prepping the Snapdragon 8 Elite 3. Therefore, it should be interesting to see how both the SoCs stack up and which comes out on top.
