Summary

  • Apple offers a new slider in iOS 27 that lets you adjust the Liquid Glass transparency effect on your iPhone.
  • You can access it inside Settings > Appearance > Liquid Glass and choose from 'Ultra Clear' to 'Fully Tinted' or anywhere in between.
  • The feature is coming to all iOS 27-eligible devices, from older iPhone 11 models all the way to iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air.

Liquid Glass was Apple's most significant change with iOS 26. It gave all apps, menus, the control centre, and other parts of iOS a translucent, frosted glass-like appearance. However, this design also made it difficult to read texts and options at the same time, which is why many people disliked it. Thankfully, Apple has finally introduced a new slider that allows users to adjust the transparent effect, and in this guide, we will show you how to adjust the Liquid Glass Effect on iPhone in iOS 27.

How to Adjust Liquid Glass in iOS 27

One of the highlight iOS 27 features is a new slider that lets you dial up or down the Liquid Glass effect on your iPhone. It ranges from clear to tinted, and you can also have it somewhere in between. It can be found within the Settings app after you install the iOS 27 developer beta, and here's how it works.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Appearance > Liquid Glass.
Open Settings and go to Appearance and Liquid Glass on iPhone running iOS 27

  1. Here, drag the slider leftwards to reduce the transparency or rightwards to increase it.
  2. A preview at the top shows how each setting affects transparency in real time.

  1. Once you are done, go back and the changes will be saved and applied automatically.

I tried it on my iPhone 13, dragging it towards Tinted, and it has improved the performance of the device since Liquid Glass takes up a lot of resources on older models. However, on my iPhone Air, I have set it to Ultra Clear since it can handle the new transparency Liquid Glass effects on iOS 27.

Can You Turn Off Liquid Glass on iPhone?

No, Apple does not let you turn off Liquid Glass on iPhone. Even dragging the slider to Fully Tinted, it does not completely remove the glass-like reflections and transparency effects. Apple has made clear there will never be a full-on/off switch for the effect. So, Tinted is as opaque as the interface gets.

FAQs

What is the difference between Ultra Clear and Fully Tinted?

Ultra Clear is the original Liquid Glass look that shipped with iOS 26, with full transparency across menus, notifications, and system elements. Fully Tinted replaces the translucency with a more solid, opaque appearance that is easier to read.

Does adjusting Liquid Glass affect battery life?

There is no confirmed data yet on whether the Fully Tinted setting has a meaningful impact on battery life compared to Ultra Clear. However, on older iPhones, going with Fully Tinted could result in slight improvements in performance.

Does the Liquid Glass slider work on iPad?

Yes. The Liquid Glass customisation slider is also available on iPadOS 27, under the same Settings > Appearance > Liquid Glass, like on iOS 27

Will Older iPhones Get Liquid Glass Slider in iOS 27?

Yes, all iOS 27 eligible devices, including the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 series, as well as later models, will receive the ability to adjust and change the Liquid Glass intensity with the new update.

That is all we have on adjusting the Liquid Glass effect on iOS 27 with the new slider. I understand that many people are still on the fence about the transparent design language, but at least there is an option to reduce it since it is unlikely Apple would be going back on their major design update. I hope you found this guide useful and it helped you adjust the Liquid Glass appearance on your iPhone.
