Qualcomm's premium new chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is finally official and it appears, the new SoC is going to power a lot of flagship killers. So to test it against MediaTek's flagship, the Dimensity 9500, we have come up with this detailed benchmark comparison. We have compared the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Dimensity 9500 across AnTuTu, Geekbench, and more. On that note, let's check out the scores.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Dimensity 9500: Geekbench Score

Geekbench 6 CPUSnapdragon 8 Gen 5 (Leaked)Dimensity 9500
Single-core2,9213,217
Multi-core9,7539,553

Ahead of the launch, the OnePlus 15R running on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 recently appeared on Geekbench. In the early Geekbench leak, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 scored 2,921 in single-core and 9,753 in multi-core. Meanwhile, the Dimensity 9500, which we tested for our Oppo Find X9 Pro review, posted 3,217 in single-core and 9,553 in multi-core.

Here, thanks to Arm's latest C1-Ultra CPU core which is clocked at a mighty 4.21GHz, the Dimensity 9500 delivers 10% faster performance in single-core tasks. However, in multi-core tasks, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 does slightly better, leading with a margin of 2%. After all, Qualcomm has also packed the latest Oryon v3 CPU cores on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 which offers incredible performance.

That said, the clock speed has been reduced to 3.8GHz, which results in relatively slower single-core performance. Overall, I am very impressed with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 as it delivers capable performance even at lower frequencies.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Dimensity 9500: AnTuTu Score

The AnTuTu score of Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is not known yet, however, DCS has claimed that it may achieve around 3.4 million points on the latest AnTuTu V11 benchmark. In comparison, the Dimensity 9500 received 3.02 million points in our AnTuTu V11 benchmark. Surprisingly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 appears to be performing better if we go by recent rumors. However, for a conclusive judgement, stay tuned with us.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Dimensity 9500: Specs Comparison

Both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Dimensity 9500 are manufactured on TSMC's 3nm (N3P) process node and pack eight CPU cores. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 packs Qualcomm's latest 3rd-gen Oryon CPU cores while MediaTek has gone with Arm's C1-series CPU cores for the Dimensity 9500.

On the graphics side, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 features the Adreno 840 GPU while the Dimensity 9500 comes with the powerful Arm Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU. Finally, in terms of 5G connectivity, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 delivers better peak download speeds as it supports mmWave 5G bands.
