Following Apple's WWDC 2026 keynote, most headlines are dominated by the next-generation Siri AI. However, iOS 27 Developer Beta testers are now discovering some of the best quality-of-life additions in the latest iteration. Chief among them is a highly requested update to the stock iPhone keyboard that allows users to paste copied text, images and links directly from the predictive text bar.
iOS 27 Keyboard Copy Paste Feature: How Does It Work?
For over a decade, copying and pasting on Apple iPhones has required a clunky dance of double-tapping the screen, waiting for the pop-up menu to appear and precisely hitting "Paste". With the new iOS 27 update, Apple is streamlining this workflow with Apple Intelligence. Now, the moment you copy text, links or even images to your clipboard, a dedicated "Paste" shortcut automatically surfaces right above the keyboard, allowing for seamless, one-tap pasting.
We put this feature to the test on our iPhone 17 running the iOS 27 Developer Beta 1 update and our experience was mostly a hit, with a bit of a miss at times. When it works, it completely changes the iPhone multitasking game, cutting down on required gestures. However, because it is still in early beta, it isn't entirely flawless.

While it worked in Mail, Messages and Instagram, it didn't work on WhatsApp at times for us. Other times, the keyboard wasn't able to identify the copied content on Gmail. In those occasional instances where the clipboard snippet wouldn't show up in the predictive bar, we would have to revert to the old double-tap method.
The new keyboard paste functionality is currently live in iOS 27 Developer Beta 1. Apple is expected to launch a public beta in July, followed by the official, stable release to the general public in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 lineup and the foldable iPhone Ultra. We fully expect Apple to iron out these minor clipboard sync issues before the software officially rolls out this fall.
