iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 iOS 12 Update Extends Essential Certificate
Those who still own the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 can now enjoy the latest iOS 12.5.8 update. This is a pre-EOL (End of Life) update since neither of the Apple iPhones can be upgraded beyond iOS 12. The primary purpose of this new update is to keep essential services running on both smartphones.

It has also extended the essential certificate required for the smooth functioning of services like iMessage, FaceTime and device activation beyond 2027. If not upgraded, these features will eventually stop working as the certification period will expire.
With this iOS 12 update, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 become the oldest supported iPhones to date. The iPhone 5s launched back in September 2013, while the iPhone 6 went official in September 2014. Hence, even after 13 years and 12 years, respectively, Apple has not forgotten about these classics.
That said, besides the iOS 12.5.8 update, Apple has also released iOS 26.2.1 and iOS 26.3 Developer Beta 3 updates for newer generation iPhones.
