Apple's ultra-thin iPhone Air 2 has been stuck in a strange limbo lately. While some reports claim that the phone has been completely scrapped, others hint at an early 2028 launch. Now, a new report from Bloomberg has rejected both narratives and the iPhone Air 2 could launch sooner than expected.
Apple Preps iPhone Air 2 Launch for Early 2027
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the second-generation iPhone Air, a.k.a. the iPhone Air 2, is launching by spring 2027 after all. The current Air 2 prototype is internally codenamed V62 and Apple seems to be working on fixing two of the major gripes users had with the first-gen model - camera and battery.

This doesn't come as a surprise since iPhone Air 2 camera upgrade leaks have been floating around since last year. It is expected to retain the 48 MP main camera and add a secondary ultra-wide-angle lens. For those hoping for a telephoto upgrade, that doesn't seem to be happening.
Moreover, Gurman states that Apple is working to increase the battery life of the iPhone Air 2. This is both optimistic and concerning at the same time, since an increase in battery life doesn't mean an increase in overall cell capacity. Given Apple's cautious nature of bringing only minor battery capacity upgrades, we can expect it to be more software-level optimisation rather than a hardware upgrade.
This makes sense since the report mentions the current prototype has the same design as the iPhone Air. Hence, all things considered, it looks like iPhone Air 2 will bring meaningful, but incremental upgrades. It could launch alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, which are also expected to debut by Q1 2027.
