Another new announcement coming straight from the Google I/O 2026 event is Google Pics. This is an AI image generation tool with precision tools that allows users to edit individual objects of an image without affecting other aspects. It will be built directly into the Google Workspace apps, and it is one of the more practically interesting tools shown today.

Google's New AI Tool Makes Creating Flyers, Posters, and Invites Effortless

Google Pics is an AI image generator with editing tools that treat every element of an image as an individual object rather than a flat, single layer. This allows specific parts to be edited without affecting the rest of the image. This makes it suitable for creating flyers, invites, posters and other such materials.

This is a major improvement over how most AI image generation tools have worked until now, where users had to provide a new prompt to edit a single aspect of the image. And the resulting photo could have a completely different background, foreground or other elements.

Sundar Pichai noted that Google Pics is built on top of Gemini Nano Banana's foundation. It offers three key features:

  • Object segmentation lets users select certain elements and move, resize, or transform them without touching the surrounding image.
  • Text editing, where users can modify text directly inside a photo and even translate it into different languages. However, it should not affect the size or the font of the text in the image itself.
  • Users can also upload their own images and edit them in Google Pics with the same removal, resize and transformation tools.

Google also mentioned in the keynote that every image generated through Google Pics is fingerprinted with Google's SynthID watermark. Just like Gemini Spark announced today, Google Pics will also integrate into Workspace apps, starting with Google Slides and Google Drive for easy access and sharing.

When Will Google Pics Be Available?

Google Pics is launching today to a limited group of Trusted Testers and will roll out globally this summer to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. When it becomes available, Pics will be accessible to Workspace customers on Business Standard and higher plans.

Users can also enrol in Google's Workspace Experiments programme to be notified whenever Google Pics becomes available and try it out. It is possibly one of the key features that we expected to announce at Google I/O 2026, along with Android Halo and Google AI Studio.
