If you were expecting a shiny new Nothing Phone (4) this year, well, it's not happening. Nothing has officially confirmed that its next true flagship phone will not launch in 2026 and it's quite the deliberate decision.

The confirmation comes directly from a recent Nothing YouTube video, where CEO Carl Pei clearly states that the brand is skipping the Phone (4) launch entirely in 2026. Instead of rushing out a successor, Pei states, "Phone (3) is our flagship for this year."

Nothing doesn't want to rush the Phone (4) launch

According to Pei, the decision to skip the Nothing Phone (4) this year is intentional. He makes it clear that Nothing would rather wait than put out a phone that doesn't significantly raise the bar.

...we're not just going to turn out a phone, flagship phone, every year just for the sake of it, to be on that schedule or calendar. We want every upgrade to feel significant.

Carl Pei, CEO, Nothing

In his words, the brand wants to avoid launching a flagship that feels forced or predictable. That philosophy means fans shouldn't expect a Phone (4) just for the sake of an annual refresh. As a result, the Nothing Phone (3) will continue as the brand's flagship throughout 2026, supported by ongoing software updates and refinements instead of being replaced too quickly.

A longer flagship cycle is part of Nothing's plan

Previously, Pei already talked about how Nothing Phones will become more expensive in 2026 due to the ongoing global RAM shortage. Pei touches up on that again, talking about how these rising costs and shrinking margins require brands to rethink yearly launches. For Nothing, that means focusing on longevity rather than speed.

It looks like holding back the Nothing Phone (4) allows the company to invest more time into design, features and overall user experience. So, when the Phone (4) does launch, it feels like a genuine step forward rather than just another Nothing Phone.

For example, even the Nothing Phone (3) launched two years after the Nothing Phone (2), with a radically different design and personality (you can read our Nothing Phone (3) review for more insight).

Nothing Phone (4a) to take centre stage

While the flagship is on pause, Nothing isn't going quiet in 2026. Pei confirms that the brand's attention this year will shift toward its mid-range lineup, the Nothing Phone (4a) series. Pei confirms that the Phone (4a) will feature meaningful upgrades across the board over the last generation.

Pei states that the Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro can arrive with "premium materials". He also suggests that the brand is experimenting with new colours as well as the overall look and feel of the phone.

To reiterate, the Nothing Phone (4) isn't cancelled but is just not ready yet. And if Nothing sticks to its philosophy, the wait could be worth it.
