Every year, Samsung introduces its next big One UI update with its latest foldables. So, it is no surprise that the One UI 9 test build was spotted with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. It is reportedly bringing a new feature which can save Galaxy Z Fold owners thousands of dollars.
One UI 9 could warn Galaxy Z Fold 8 users if it isn't fully closed
The folks over at Android Authority managed to spot a string of code in the One UI 9 test build dubbed Foreign Material Detection. Expected to debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, the new feature is designed to alert users whenever the inner folding screen doesn't fold completely.
It is aimed to prevent damage to the fragile Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) by detecting foreign particles like dust and debris that may have accidentally slipped between the two folds.

While it is unclear at the moment how exactly the feature will alert and prompt the user, the above images show off three different iterations of foldables with the Foreign Material Detection feature. While Q8 and B8 denote the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, respectively, there is also a wide foldable with the H8 internal identifier.
This falls in line with last month's mysterious GSMA IMEI database listing of a Galaxy foldable with the same codename. It very likely refers to the wide Galaxy Fold that Samsung is reportedly prepping to compete with the unique wide Apple iPhone Fold form factor.
That said, at the time of writing, the publication has confirmed that it is unsure when the new Foreign Material Detection will go official. It is also uncertain if the feature will arrive to older Galaxy foldables or will be exclusive to the upcoming ones.
