Summary

  • Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra has bagged NBTC and IMDA certification, which hints at imminent launch.
  • The smartphone has appeared with a model number SM-S948B/DS and has been registered under the name "Galaxy S26 Ultra".
  • Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S26 Ultra at Galaxy Unpacked, which could be scheduled for January 24, 2026.

Samsung appears to be finalising preparations for its next flagship smartphone, as the Galaxy S26 Ultra has finally bagged the certification from Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). The listing confirms the smartphone's SKU, make, name and approval status in the country.

Galaxy S26 Ultra could launch in January 2026

Spotted first by tipster Mukul Sharma and posted on X, the phone is listed under the model number SM-S948B/DS on the NBTC certification website. Most importantly, it also confirms the marketing name as the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. The status of the certificate appears as "Approved", meaning the smartphone meets the required standards.

The DS suffix typically denotes dual-SIM support in Samsung nomenclature. Besides passing Thailand's certification, the smartphone has also passed Singapore's IMDA certification.

The document doesn't explicitly reveal the specifications of the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, we know from the previous leaked specifications that the smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and feature an upgraded 60W charging, along with 25W Qi 2.2 wireless charging.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra could also boast a slightly larger 6.89-inch 2K 120 Hz 2x AMOLED LTPO display. Meanwhile, it could arrive with a 200 MP main, 10 MP telephoto, 50 MP periscope and 50 MP ultrawide sensors. Samsung has reportedly made the Ultra slightly slimmer this time around and the phone will run on Android 16-based One UI 8.5 out of the box.

Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked could be scheduled for January 24, 2026, where it's expected to unveil the Galaxy S26 series. According to leaks and reports, the standard Galaxy S26 processor could be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the Korean version may opt for the Exynos 2600. The standard Galaxy S26 cameras may not get an upgrade to save on costs.

More information about the smartphones will be revealed as we inch closer to launch, and after Samsung officially announces Galaxy Unpacked, so stay tuned.
