Summary

  • Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature a new kind of Gorilla Glass protection, making screen protectors unnecessary.
  • The phone's display is said to infuse anti-reflective, anti-scratch and privacy screen properties at the glass level.
  • Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra launch date is said to be set for February 25, 2026.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 series is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated launches this year, especially the top-tier Galaxy S26 Ultra. Now, ahead of launch, a fresh new leak has shed light on the kind of display durability the smartphone will bring and it's beyond impressive.

Galaxy S26 Ultra Tipped to Use New-Gen Gorilla Glass

The new information arrives from renowned tipster Ice Universe, who suggests the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra will use a new kind of Gorilla Glass, which could make the smartphone's display the toughest in existence. It is said to incorporate screen protector properties at the glass level, making an external protective layer practically redundant.

To achieve this, the upcoming Samsung flagship will offer a versatile mix of features and durability. For starters, the tipster claims that the Galaxy S26 Ultra's glass will be so durable that it will withstand drops and scratches with ease, making it one of the most durable Samsung phones to exist upon launch.

Moreover, with Colour Filter of Encapsulation (COE) technology, the phone's display will become more power-efficient and less reflective. This could become the underlying tech for the Galaxy S26 Ultra Privacy Display feature.

All in all, it is clear that Samsung is working closely with Corning to bring this new kind of display tech to life. However, it remains to be seen as to how exactly the new phone will become a threat to the largest aftermarket accessory market.

The purpose of a screen protector, in most cases is to prevent damage directly to the display glass. This not only prevents the actual phone from getting damaged, but also eliminates the user's burden to bear high display replacement costs. Hence, even if the Galaxy S26 Ultra achieves breakthrough display durability, it will always be better to give it an additional layer of protection.

That said, since this is a leak at the time of writing, take it with a grain of salt. Moreover, as the Galaxy S26 series expected launch date is February 25, 2026, we hopefully won't have to wait long for Samsung's most advanced phone to break cover.
