Summary
- Samsung's dual-glass creaseless display could debut in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 later in 2026.
- The technology uses laser-drilled micro-perforations to reduce visible creases by 20%.
- Samsung may use a metal support plate, while Apple opts for a glass substrate to solve crease issue.
2026 is expected to be an exciting year for foldable smartphones, with Apple finally entering the arena with a wide iPhone Fold. It's expected arrive with Samsung's crease-less display, and the same could also be used in the Galaxy Z Fold 8. A latest report suggests Samsung is deploying a new Dual Ultra Thin Glass system to minimise the screen crease.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 could bring Creaseless Tech to the masses
According to a report from the Korean website DealSite, Samsung could embed ultra-thin glass on both the top and bottom of the display panels. This way, the brand could achieve a 20% reduction in crease visibility compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Samsung showcased crease-less display at CES 2026, and it relies on a sophisticated laminate structure with improved light dispersion. Besides, it also uses laser-drilled micro-perforations to manage stress distribution during folding.
While the underlying display technology could be similar on the upcoming Apple foldable, Apple could choose a different way to eliminate the crease. Sources point toward Apple using a liquid metal hinge and a glass substrate.
Display crease has been one of the major cons of foldable smartphones. However, this development could finally mark the end of it. Having already made major strides in battery capacity and cameras, brands are now solving the third legacy issue of foldables, i.e., the visible seam.

That said, we recently learned about the Samsung H8 mystery foldable that may join the likes of Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8. It's expected to be an iPhone Fold competitor, and could feature the same creaseless design.
This puts Samsung's display division ahead of other major display suppliers like BOE and CSOT (TCL). Although foldable panels are known for developing a deeper crease as they go through their usual usage cycles. Therefore, it should be interesting to see if Samsung's new dual-glass tech exhibits the same behaviour.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to launch in Q2 2026, in June or July 2026, while the Wide Foldable could arrive in Fall 2026. More information about the specifications of these smartphones should surface as we inch closer to launch, so stay tuned.
