Samsung's One UI 8.5 update is shaping up to be an interesting package. It is based on Android 16 itself and build on the core One UI 8 foundation. While there is no official word on the update yet, leaks have started floating around. The latest one talks about a controversial feature coming to the next OS update.
One UI 8.5 will bring a new Network Battery Saver feature
The folks over at Android Authority recently discovered a One UI 8.5 code string during an APK teardown. It revealed that Samsung is working on a new Network Battery Saver feature. As the name suggests, the upcoming feature specifically targets the smartphone's network performance to save battery.

This will help One UI 8.5 supported devices to extract the most out of their precious battery capacity. Interestingly, there doesn't appear to be an option to manually toggle the Network Battery Saver feature on and off.
The publication claims that the upcoming option will make use of Galaxy AI's Personal Data Intelligence feature to intelligently detect when the phone is left idle in order to kick in. So, the new Network Battery Saver feature could become one of the many Galaxy AI features that are expected to make their way to Samsung phones via the One UI 8.5 update.

Speaking of AI features, a new OneUI 8.5 auto-blur sensitive content feature was recently spotted. It was revealed to use the Privacy Protection feature in the share sheet to help users remove sensitive information from their photos, like metadata, location and more, before sharing.
Moreover, four new Galaxy AI features are also said to make their way via One UI 8.5, like Meeting Assist, Touch Assistant, Social Composer and Smart Clipboard.
Apart from this, a previous One UI 8.5 design leak revealed Apple's Liquid Glass "inspiration" throughout the user interface. From drop shadows in the back button to a redesigned Settings page, the next One UI update will feature visual overhauls as well.

As for when to expect the update, leaks hint at the One UI 8.5 release timeline to be set for November 2025. Expect the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE to become the first phones to receive the new update.
